Book Two: 1940 — Luna Strega
Eight centuries later, the Di Luna line has crossed an ocean. Book Two lands in mid-century America, where three sisters — Loretta, Joann, and Linda — come of age in a world tangled up with La Cosa Nostra families. The mark has not faded. Loretta carries it in silver. Linda carries it in crimson. Joann carries no visible mark at all — which, in the logic of the old stregoneria, does not mean she carries no power.
Their mother, Nardina, is alive throughout Book Two. She is a thread that holds the old knowledge in place, the living memory of what the crescent mark costs and what it gives. But the trilogy rewards reading in order. The weight of the Lupa's pact accumulates. Symbols that appear in Book One return in Book Two changed — older, stranger, more dangerous. A reader who meets Loretta and Linda before they understand what Serafina gave up in 1099 will miss the full cost of what the Di Luna women carry.
